Frequently asked questions

Good questions make better charters.

Straightforward answers to the things first-time and repeat charter guests most often need to understand.

Do I need sailing experience to charter a yacht?

Not if you choose an appropriate skippered or crewed charter. Bareboat charters normally require the nominated skipper to meet the operator’s competence and experience requirements.

What is the difference between bareboat and skippered charter?

On a bareboat charter your nominated skipper takes responsibility for operating the yacht. On a skippered charter a professional skipper is supplied or arranged under the relevant booking terms.

Can DreamSail guarantee my qualification will be accepted?

No. Acceptance depends on the yacht, operator, flag, cruising area and local rules. DreamSail can help identify what needs checking, but the supplier should confirm acceptance for the exact booking.

Is the security deposit part of the charter price?

Usually it is separate. The supplier may require a refundable deposit, card authorisation, damage waiver or reduced-deposit product. The quotation should explain what applies.

Are flights included?

Unless a quotation expressly says otherwise, DreamSail yacht-charter enquiries should be treated as yacht-only arrangements. Flights and other travel should not be assumed to be included.

What happens if the yacht I choose becomes unavailable?

The answer depends on the supplier contract and circumstances. The operator may propose a substitute, alternative dates or another remedy under its terms. DreamSail will communicate the options available for the specific booking.

Can we charter with children?

Many families do. The right yacht, safety equipment, cabin layout, boarding arrangements and cruising area matter. Tell DreamSail the children’s ages so the shortlist can be more practical.

What if we arrive late?

Charter bases have different late-arrival procedures. Contact the base or DreamSail as early as possible and follow the supplier’s instructions; do not assume a normal handover will still be available after hours.

Do we need travel insurance?

Appropriate travel insurance is strongly recommended and some suppliers may make particular insurance a condition. Check that the policy covers the activities, destinations and circumstances relevant to your charter.

Who is actually supplying the yacht?

The yacht owner, fleet operator or charter provider identified in your quotation and booking documents. DreamSail’s role should be stated clearly in the booking documentation.

Can we change the itinerary during the week?

Often yes, but always within the operator’s permitted cruising area and subject to safe conditions, local restrictions, the charter contract and the skipper’s judgement.

How early should we book?

Popular yachts, school-holiday weeks and peak-season bases can book well in advance. A flexible brief gives DreamSail more options if your first choice is no longer available.
