A plain-English explanation of the information we collect for enquiries and bookings, who it may be shared with, how long it is kept and the rights available to you.
The controller for DreamSail website and enquiry data is Handley Design Ltd (company number 17308511), registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, United Kingdom, WC2H 9JQ. Privacy questions and complaints can be sent to info@dreamsail.co.uk.
Depending on how you use DreamSail, we may collect:
Free-text enquiry fields should not be used to send unnecessary medical information. If you tell us about a health, disability, dietary or accessibility requirement because it is relevant to the charter, that information may be more sensitive under data-protection law. We will use it only for the relevant request and, where required, will obtain explicit consent or rely on another lawful condition before sharing it with a supplier.
We use different lawful bases depending on the purpose:
| Purpose | Typical lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Answering a charter enquiry and obtaining requested quotes | Steps at your request before entering a contract |
| Administering a confirmed booking | Performance of a contract / steps connected with the contract |
| Accounting, legal records and required disclosures | Legal obligation |
| Security, fraud prevention, service administration and proportionate business records | Legitimate interests, balanced against your rights |
| Optional electronic marketing where consent is required | Consent |
| Special-category information you voluntarily provide where consent is the appropriate condition | Explicit consent, or another lawful condition where applicable |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, those interests include operating a secure enquiry service, preventing misuse, maintaining records of customer communications and defending or establishing legal claims where necessary.
We share only what is reasonably necessary for the purpose. Recipients may include:
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
Yacht charters are international by nature. A supplier or booking platform may be outside the UK. Where a transfer is required to respond to your request or administer a booking, we will use an applicable lawful transfer route. This may include a UK adequacy regulation, appropriate contractual safeguards, or — where legally permitted and genuinely necessary — a transfer required to take requested pre-contract steps or perform a contract connected with your booking.
Third-party font delivery used by the website may also cause your browser to make a request to Google servers when loading fonts. We do not use that connection for DreamSail advertising or behavioural profiling.
| Record | Normal retention approach |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that do not become bookings | Normally up to 24 months after the last meaningful contact, unless needed longer for a dispute, legal obligation or security reason. |
| Protected SMTP success/error logs | Normally up to 6 months for delivery troubleshooting and security. |
| Booking, payment and material contract records | Normally up to 6 years after completion/cancellation, where needed for accounting, contractual or legal claims. |
| Marketing preferences | For as long as needed to honour the preference, including suppression records where necessary. |
We may keep a record longer where there is an active complaint, dispute, legal requirement or reasonably anticipated claim. We may delete information earlier when it is no longer needed.
The Compass uses the answers you give to score and rank cruising regions. At present, this matching happens in your browser and is designed only to make recommendations. It is not used to make a solely automated decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you.
A charter enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to marketing. If DreamSail introduces newsletters or promotional email, we will use an appropriate lawful basis and provide the required consent or opt-out mechanism. You can object to direct marketing at any time.
DreamSail is aimed at adults arranging yacht charters. We do not intentionally ask children to submit enquiries themselves. Crew details about children may be processed when an adult lead booker provides them for a legitimate booking purpose. We will take account of children's interests when processing such information.
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access your personal data, correct inaccurate data, request erasure, restrict processing, receive certain data in portable form, object to processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exemptions.
To exercise a right, email info@dreamsail.co.uk or use the data-protection complaint route. We may need reasonable information to confirm identity before disclosing personal data.
If you think DreamSail has handled your personal information incorrectly, you can complain directly to us using our online complaints form or by email. We will acknowledge a data-protection complaint within 30 days, take appropriate steps to investigate it, keep you informed where necessary and communicate the outcome without undue delay.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. We encourage you to contact DreamSail first so we have an opportunity to resolve the issue, but doing so does not remove your right to contact the ICO.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the service. Website enquiries are sent through authenticated SMTP and a protected server-side copy is retained for resilience. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please avoid sending unnecessary highly sensitive information through a general enquiry form.
We will update this notice when the supplier stack, live booking systems, analytics, payment providers or legal operator details change. Material new uses of personal data will be brought to people's attention where required.
